This is your chance to leverage your accounting and management skills while managing the Finance department of a purpose-driven company.

What can I expect to do in this role?

Under the direction of the CEO, you will be accountable for the accounting operations of GCS, which include the production of periodic financial statements, risk management, maintenance of a system of accounting records, insurance recommendations and related purchases, and a comprehensive set of controls and budgets designed to mitigate risk, enhance the accuracy of the company’s reported financial results, and ensure that reported results comply with generally accepted accounting principles in support of maximizing the growth and profitability of GCS.

Responsibilities include:
Management

  • Working closely with other members of the Leadership team in developing operating performance metrics and KPIs
  • Responsible for creating, planning, implementing and achieving departmental strategies and deliverables,
  • Ensuring integrity of financial systems, general ledgers, and sub ledgers and identifying system enhancements to maximize productivity and reduce operating costs
  • Planning, directing, and overseeing all accounting operational functions carried out by staff of 3 (A/P, A/R, Cash management, Payroll) in both Canada and USA
  • Preparing the annual budget in collaboration with the CEO and other members of the leadership team and assisting Program Directors and Project Managers with the preparation of their project budgets
  • Hiring, training and retaining skilled accounting staff

Transactions

  • Negotiating employee insurance and benefit plans with third party benefit providers
  • Assessing and advising the Leadership team on the appropriate type(s) of business insurance coverage needed to mitigate and/or limit financial losses
  • Managing the acquisition and financial accounting of capital assets and evaluating the need for new technology to meet organizational financial information and data processing needs
  • Managing leases and other contractual obligations, negotiating bank financing as needed, and other financial commitments
  • Reconciling bank and investment accounts
  • Overseeing and supervising general office administration (reception, facility management and workplace safety, and procurement of office furniture and equipment)

Reporting

  • Managing the accumulation and consolidation of all financial data necessary for an accurate accounting for each project and consolidated business results for the CEO, Board and Annual general meetings
  • Responsible for the review of monthly results and financial statements, as well as preparation of cash flow forecasts as required by the Executive team, the CRA and IRS

Compliance

  • Communicating with the Board and external auditors for the coordination of information for annual audits, as necessary
  • Developing, implementing, and maintaining compliance with internal financial policies and procedures including the safeguarding of personnel and financial information
  • Ensuring all payroll-related statutory requirements are met including withholding payments (CPP, EI), EHT, Income Tax, and GST/HST (and US equivalents)
  • Monitoring compliance with HR relevant legislation including employment standards, occupational health and safety, human rights etc.
  • Issuing annual Canadian and US tax return information as required

Qualifications/Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, business, or a related field
  • 10+ years proven accounting experience
  • CPA professional accounting certification, including CMA, CGA, or CA
  • Working knowledge of finance law and regulatory standards (GAAP)
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Proficiency in accounting software and MS Office Suite of products (Excel, Word, Powerpoint)

Driver and Warehouse Logistics Personnel

Reporting to the Operations Supervisor, the Driver and Warehouse Logistics Personnel will have primary responsibility to maintain salon collection routes, and warehouse/ operational equipment/ company vans coordinating with regional team members. Also assists with hAIRmail operations and new campaigns as assigned by the Global Operations Manager.

Responsibilities

  • Picking up recycling materials from clients, based on a predetermined schedule (with company van)
  • Dropping off materials collected, at a warehouse and local depots
  • Warehousing (to keep the space clean and tidy)
  • Sorting and organizing warehouse
  • Shipping supplies to clients
  • Sending marketing materials and documents to clients
  • Receiving of recyclables at the warehouse
  • Reporting and tracking of collections and weights of materials
  • Vendor relationship – maintaining good relationships with our recycling and shipping partners
  • Inventory control for all supplies
  • Assisting Operations Supervisor with any ongoing projects. e.g. new materials for the company to explore, new vendors search, etc.
