Green Circle Salons Achieves Carbon Trust’s Zero Waste to Landfill Standard for the Third Time
This certification cements Green Circle Salon’s continued dedication to sustainability
TORONTO, Aug, 28, 2023– Green Circle Salons, the beauty industry’s first sustainable salon solution dedicated to fighting beauty waste and climate change, has once again achieved Carbon Trust’s Zero Waste to Landfill Standard. Zero Waste to Landfill means that no non-hazardous waste is sent to the landfill for incineration without energy recovery. This certification is valid for two years, and this is the third time Green Circle Salons has been recognized for its environmental efforts and commitment to sustainability.
The only salon waste recycling service to have achieved Zero Waste to Landfill, the Standard certifies that 100% of Green Circle Salons’ waste footprint never goes to landfill and is minimized through the following means:
- Over 700 tonnes of Beauty Waste has been diverted from landfill in 2022
- 67% is recycled, including metals, plastic and cardboard packaging
- 33% is recovered as waste-to-energy

Green Circle Salon’s award-winning program empowers salons to offset their emissions and recover up to 95% of their beauty waste, including previously unrecoverable materials and hard-to-recycle items like hair clippings, foils, excess hair color, aerosol cans, and color tubes. Last year alone, Green Circle Salons’ members kept 1,284,437 pounds of beauty waste out of landfills and waterways.
Green Circle Salons carefully sorts and weighs incoming beauty waste that arrives at its warehouses and works with vetted vendor partners to achieve the highest and best use of each waste stream. To achieve this Standard, Green Circle Salons worked with the Carbon Trust assurance team to provide supporting evidence including data measurement, completeness, and accuracy. The Carbon Trust assessment team audited the entire chain of custody including performing site visits and interviews to confirm proper waste management processes protocol and validate results at every stage of the recovery process.
